Did you know that our Managing Director, Michel Cordani, is also one of the Co-founders of MO Angels— the first investment syndicate in Mauritius? Under the aegis of MO Angels, Michel Cordani spoke at the GROW event, a collaborative initiative that brings together FUNDKISS, Turbine, Hive workplace, and other players to discuss how startups can be equipped with the adequate financial instruments at each step for success.
The event, which occurred at the HIVE workplace, featured panel discussions led by Paul Perrier, founder of FUNDKISS, among other players such as MCB Group , SME Mauritius, Mo Angels, Seed Capital, and MRIC. The panel explored the financing solutions available for startups and SMEs while offering the startups a chance to ask questions and engage with industry experts.
From the discussion, it appears that many funding solutions for startups and SMEs already exist in Mauritius. There is no one-stop shop—entrepreneurs must learn how to navigate the various financial instruments, grants, and funding opportunities. Each of them plays a specific role at every stage of development.
Some of our startups incubated at La Plage, such as Inspexion, Rwazi, and Yugo, have received funding from angel investors and other financing institutions. However, many are still struggling to raise capital because early-stage funding is still very difficult to come by in Mauritius.
We are glad we are having these conversations to bridge this gap and set the startups up for success. As in other ecosystems, the recipe for success requires multiple actors and the government to play a role.
As an active player in the ecosystem, La Plage Factory aims at partnering with finance specialists, such as MO Angels and the other panel institutions, to support entrepreneurs in raising funds and meeting their goals.
