Let's Meet Up in partnership with Novaterra

Highlights from our first Let's Meet Up in partnership with Novaterra 🌟

Innovation is not exclusive to “startups”. Our Growth and Innovation event in May highlighted how entrepreneurs in Mauritius have been building innovative solutions successfully and organically, for years now.

Our latest partnership with Novaterra for our July Let's Meet Up reaffirmed this perspective too.

Leading Smart City developer Novaterra is a great example of innovation occurring outside the startup ecosystem, from creating open and integrated communities, to promoting Mauritius's cultural sector from the ground up. We are proud to have welcomed their team at our beautiful Coworking space at the heart of the Capital, enabling our community of innovators to learn how this leading private sector corporation has been integrating innovation and sustainability into their company strategy.

La Plage Factory's Managing Director Michel C. expressed his enthusiasm about this partnership:

“We are genuinely pleased to have teamed up with Novaterra for our July Let's Meet Up. Our goal for these monthly events is to bring as much value as we can to our community, by fostering connections and partnerships and showcasing island-wide innovation. I can already see lots of potential for partnerships with some of our very own startups - from Smart Communities a solution that aims to get citizens to be more involved in co-created functional and prosperous communities, to La Déchetèque which addresses Mauritius' construction waste management issue.”

We'd like to extend our warmest thanks to Joel Couve de Murville Emeric Vigier de Latour and their team for sharing their vision of developing an innovative cultural hub in Beau Plan .

Please do visit us again, if you get a chance!

As tradition would have it, our event concluded with a pitching session featuring two of our EdTech startup founders, Thibaut Walle from @alaprann.mu and Priya Premika Veera - Ramsurrun from My Exclusive Books.

Pitching sessions are an integral part of our incubator programmes and are designed to give our founders the opportunity to pitch their solution to a panel of experts, mentors and innovation enthusiasts. These sessions are essential for our founders to refine their pitches and secure partnerships and funding. Thank you to all who attended, including Barthelemy Aupee Patricia Aliphon 🔆 , Grant Stevenson and Ronald Laxton (amongst many others), for providing valuable feedback.

How Mo Angels and stakeholders from the India-Africa startup ecosystem are supporting early-stage funding in Mauritius

Early-stage investment is critical to take the Mauritian and the wider African startup eco-system to new heights. Mo Angels , the leading network of angel investors in Mauritius, contributed to important events in this area recently.

In June, MITCO Group gathered Indian Ocean Islands Venture Capital and family offices investors to highlight the benefits of angel investing and to encourage them to consider it as part of their business strategy.

In July, Mo Angels partnered with the India Africa Business Network for the 4th edition of the India-Africa Entrepreneurship and Investment Summit.

As a co-founder of Mo Angels , our Managing Director Michel C. participated in a panel discussion on “how to internationalise the Mauritian startup ecosystem” and led a workshop with African, Indian and Mauritian stakeholders on early-stage funding instruments and regulations.

There is significant potential for the ecosystems of Africa and India to work together, given their many similarities. In addition, successful startup entrepreneurs and private equity investors from India are eager to partner with African founders. This is why the India-Africa Entrepreneurship and Investment Summit is so important, because it brings together the brightest and best to make waves.
