Start Your Business (SYB) and La Plage Factory are aligned in their vision of promoting entrepreneurship in Africa. SYB enriches our program with a set of complementary tools that empower entrepreneurs to transform their ideas into thriving and sustainable businesses.

Mauritius Research and Innovation Council (MRIC)

Partner Description

As the official agency for research and innovation in Mauritius, the MRIC plays a pivotal role by advising the government on crucial areas such as applied research, innovation, and research and development. Additionally, it spearheads the National SME Incubator Scheme (NSIS), a key initiative aimed at bolstering local incubators and supporting startups across the nation.

Nature of Partnership

As the inaugural accredited incubator within the NSIS program, La Plage Factory has forged a remarkable public-private partnership with the MRIC. Through this collaboration, the MRIC extends grants to support our incubated projects. Together with the MRIC and various ecosystem stakeholders, we are committed to enhancing the Mauritian startup landscape for the collective benefit of all involved parties.

Economic Development Board

Partner Description

The EDB (Economic Development Board) is a corporate body tasked with providing strong institutional backing for strategic economic planning. Its multifaceted mission includes positioning Mauritius as a gateway for channelling investments into Africa, fostering a competitive export platform, as well as an International Financial Centre (IFC).

Nature of Partnership

The EDB facilitates investment and promotes entrepreneurship in Mauritius, and we share a similar vision of turning Mauritius into a hub for African business and investment, as outlined in the EDB Africa Strategy.

La French Tech

Partner Description

La French Tech is a dynamic startup movement uniting essential ecosystem stakeholders with the overarching objective of establishing France as an attractive destination for startups to establish and thrive. Within this broader context, French Tech Mauritius was initiated by Michel Cordani, with the vision of positioning Mauritius as an integral part of the thriving French Tech community.

Nature of Partnership

Our Managing Director, Michel Cordani, co-founded French Tech Mauritius, fostering connections with the global network and elevating Mauritius in the startup community. French Tech also promotes regional cooperation in the Indian Ocean and Africa, facilitating local startup delegations to international events such as Viva Technology in Paris. Our Coworking space hosts regular French Tech Community events.

Afrilabs

This is a network organisation supporting Innovation Centres across African countries, founded upon the mission of building capacity and a community around the rapidly emerging technology hubs in Africa.

La Plage Factory was the first Mauritian incubator to join AfriLabs. This membership has enriched us with a wealth of invaluable resources, opening doors to strategic partnerships and capacity-building opportunities spanning the entire African continent. These connections have positioned us as a leading incubator in Mauritius and the Indian Ocean region.

Mo Angels

Partner Description

Mo Angels is the first syndicated angel investment group in Mauritius, comprising of a community of passionate individuals who pool their funds, expertise, and networks to help build innovative African startups.

Nature of Partnership

Early-stage funding is essential for startup success. Mo Angels, co-founded by our Managing Director, Michel Cordani, addresses the pre-seed funding gap in Mauritius and Africa.

Catalytic Africa

Partner Description

Catalytic Africa is a matching fund by the African Business Angels Network (ABAN) and AfriLabs aimed at strengthening African startups, innovation hubs, and angel investors while delivering impact results to institutional funders.

Nature of Partnership

Catalytic Africa offers a novel approach to support pre-seed startups, uniting incubators, startups, and angel investors to provide non-dilutive funds, often up to three times the initial angel investment. We collaborate with Catalytic Africa and Mo Angels to streamline access to early-stage funding for our investor-ready startups.

Fuzé Digital Africa

Partner Description

Fuzé is an initiative from Digital Africa, funded by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), to provide early-stage funding opportunities to the Francophone African startups, which remains largely underserved, as compared to their Anglophone counterparts.

Nature of Partnership

Fuzé is a rare early-stage funding opportunity in Mauritius. We've partnered to enable access to funding for entrepreneurs from Francophone Africa.
