The Mauritian and African Startup Ecosystems: The critical role of Early-stage investment

𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆-𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 is critical to take the Mauritian and the wider African startup eco-system to new heights. Mo Angels, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘂𝘀, contributed to important events in this area recently.

In June, MITCO Group gathered 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗢𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 to highlight 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 and to encourage them to consider it as part of their business strategy.

In July, Mo Angels partnered with the India Africa Business Network for the 𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮-𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁.

As a co-founder of Mo Angels, our Managing Director Michel C. took part in a panel discussion on “𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺” and led a workshop with African, Indian and Mauritian stakeholders on 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆-𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀.  𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿, 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀.

We fully support the Government of Mauritius’ ambitions to transform Mauritius into an 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗵𝘂𝗯 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮. And our wish is that these public-private partnerships with Indian and African stakeholders will bear its fruits, by providing early-stage funding instruments to promising innovative African startups.
